This garden is located just off 23rd Avenue, a busy commercial street in Northwest Portland.

These photos don't make it look very impressive. I don't know. There was something charmingly incongruous about it, nestled in among big buildings.

We stopped at Wells-Medina today and picked up some groundcover.

I'm too sick to plant or weed today, but not too sick to take a few pictures around the yard.

The most robust one of my 11 Julia Phelps Ceanothus plants is starting to bloom already.

As are those crazy Euphorbia I planted last fall.

I think these look really cool protruding from and spilling over the rocks.

And I think the look fine next to the Point Reyes Ceanothus plants, which are certainly holding their own in the wall.

The weeds are doing even better than holding their own out here. Of course, we haven't pulled a single weed back here since October. (It's time!)

Oh, so this is what fresh spring growth on sedum Autumn Joy looks like. I'm cool with this.

They were looking pretty iffy in the middle of the winter, but I think the Cryptomeria japonica 'cristata' are starting to make a comeback. This was always the worst-looking one.

Today I went to my first garden show. At first I thought I didn't like it because it was too cheesy. Then I realized I didn't like it because it was too tasteful.

There's something both cheesy and boringly tasteful about seeing all these high-end garden displays set up inside a convention center.

For some reason I just don't like seeing trees displayed as houseplants. I don't know. Something about this whole thing just bugs me.

The plant market section is a little better, though too crowded with jewelry and children's hats and things. Heaths and Heathers came out.

I especially love these fiery ones. They're open on March 1 -- maybe it's worth a drive out to Shelton to go get some of these. (I'm not going to try to carry home flats of plants on the horrible 36 today.)

Sorry to disappoint, but those are all the garden show photos I want to post.

But I will show you how our sedum are filling in at home!
